COMPETITIONS & STEM ACTIVITIES
ADVENTURELAND STUDENT STEM ACTIVITY     (Fall 2018):

Adventureland Info from Joe Fili:

While many are looking towards the end of the school and summer vacation, it is also a time when we make initial plans for the upcoming school year. For this reason I would like to take a few moments to tell you about a fabulous opportunity to enhance your Technology Education or STEM programs.  Surprisingly it’s so close to your school, it’s almost in your back yard.

Technology Days at Adventureland in Farmingdale is an out of classroom learning experience that follows a format similar to that of Physics Day at Great Adventure. The Program was created by Technology Education Teachers in 2001 and was based on the MST standards, so all three of these curriculums were closely considered when developing activities around the various rides in the park.  Because engineering is embedded in the Tech Ed curriculum, you also have all the components for  STEM.

What initially started as one day with five hundred students has run continually and grown into a two day event with now over twenty four hundred students. Attending schools range from South Hampton (Suffolk) to Middle Village (Queens) including both public and private schools and home school groups as well.  Many of the participating schools have been attending for a number of years as the students truly enjoy this day and the teachers/ administrators both see the high level of educational value in the trip.

Because Technology Days take place in mid October, (when student motivation is high) now is the time to start planning. Registration is required and we offer two types. Pre – Registration is taking place now until June 30. Pre- Registration offers you a $1.25 per student discount and requires only an initial $100 deposit. You would pay the balance in the fall prior to the event. Regular registration occurs after June 30 at the full price. The registration cost includes unlimited access to all available rides and lunch.  Please note that we can provide for a wide array of dietary needs.

We can accommodate all types of groups, you can bring a club, a class or a whole grade (the content is focused on seventh grade). Quite a few schools have moved to the whole grade format as this promotes the development of intergraded curriculum when teachers from other curriculums see what the students are learning about. It also reduces the number of substitute teachers needed. We do everything for you: there are worksheets provided for all available rides (you select the ones that best suite your curriculum) our lunch program is so well coordinated, Adventureland has adopted it when large groups attend during their season, a licensed nurse is on staff and a variety of local media is often present.
